Leeke Griffin
Leeke Griffin graduated from the Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts (WAAPA) in 2009 with a BA Dance-Honours (Link Dance Company-Directed by Michael Whaites). Upon graduation, she was awarded the prestigious University Finlay Award and her dance thesis was published and accepted into the Edith Cowan University Library collection. During her studies she worked with choreographers; Sue Healey, Michael Whaites, Chrissie Parrott, Anton, Rhys Martin, and Craig Bary.
Leeke is since based in Sydney where she has been working as an independent dance artist.
In 2010 Leeke received a Warringah Council Cultural grant to create and perform a dance/music collaboration, Sounds like Dance, Looks like Music, (Music in March Festival 2011). With the help of this grant she also worked with the Warringah community to facilitate youth dance and music workshops and performances.
In 2011, Leeke was a performer in Kate Champion's Force Majeure Cultivate Lab (CarriageWorks). Leeke was also a recipient for DirtyFeet's choreographic Lab program. This three week residency, mentored by Sue Healey, was the first stage development of Leeke's work 'The Bystander'. Leeke has recently been working on a solo under the mentorship of Julie-Anne Long with the support of the Queen Street Studio (QSS) Blueprint program. This solo, For the Time Being, was performed at the culmination of her Blueprint residency. Leeke was also invited to perform her work at the FraserStudios Open Day (October 2011).
