Selected by the Australia Council and Youth Arts Queensland as a beneficiary of the 2012 JUMP Mentorship program, this year ANya has been mentored by Sue Healey in dance/ interdisciplinary arts to create the first public showing of developing work ‘Fit To Shift’, shown 7-9th of September, 2012.
In addition to the amazing opportunity of JUMP, Anya’s dance-film ‘The Door (2011) earned it’s first two International screening debuts this year. Having made ‘The Door’(2011) in Western Australia as part of her BA Arts (Dance) HONOURS at WAAPA last year, the film was nominated by the WA Screen Academy to enter the NexT International Film Festival (6th edition) in Bucharest, Romania (28th March –1st April, 2012) and then again for the 2012 Third Coast Dance Festival, Houston Texas (15 & 16th Sept. 2012).
As a dancer this year, Anya was fortunate enough to perform with Melbourne dance company Chunky Move in Gideon Obarzanek’s work ‘Assembly’ at the 2012 Sydney Festival. A fantastic experience only to be followed by her employment on Force Majeure’s latest project ‘Culminate’ performed at Carriageworks from the 1st-4th of August.
Before this year, Anya performed in the works of dance artists Sue Healey, Tim Ohl, Sue Peacock, Xiaoxiong Zhang, Elizabeth Ryan, Jane McKernan, Nalina Wait and Sol Ulbrich during her training at WAAPA and UNSW. During this time, Anya was also the grateful beneficiary of the St. George Students' Association Dance Scholarship at UNSW to develop a dance film ‘Catalysts’, which in 2010 was shown at the Reeldance International Film Festival ‘Out of the Hat’ section and again at the dance film festival 2011 AnyDanceAnyScreen festival in Canberra.
