Benjamin grew up in Sydney, first dancing at The Conlan College. At 14 he moved to Melbourne to spend 4 years at The Australian Ballet School, gaining an Advanced Diploma of Dance. Subsequently spending 3 years in The Australian Ballet Company repertoire highlights have included performing works by Gideon Obarzanek, Stephen Baynes, Timothy Harbour, Lisa Wilson, Graeme Murphy, Natalie Weir, John Cranko, Sir Kenneth Macmillan, Balanchine, and Kylian. Benjamin is keen to absorb and learn about different disciplines, and the people connected to them. Specifically, he is looking to research how various cultures and religions have interacted with their scientific or mathematic community.
Outside of dance, Benjamin is a keen musician - playing the oboe and piano - having performed Mahler's 4th Symphony last year with Stonnington Symphony which was then broadcast on 3mbs fm. He also pursues fashion design, creating bespoke dance wear garments for many of the artists in The Australian Ballet, and wherever possible as gifts for special occasions.
