
Anna Kuroda is a dancer and choreographer. She is a new resident of Sydney, Australia having been previously based in Kamakura, Japan.
She completed her Bachelor of Movement Science at the Japan Women’s College of Physical Education in 2009.
From 2007 she has worked with art performance company Nibroll as a dancer, performing in Japan, Australia, Singapore and the USA. Nibroll’s Romeo OR Juliet, in which Kuroda had a lead role, was awarded the Japan Dance Forum Award 2008 Grand Prix.
In 2010 Kuroda moved to Europe and was seconded by Ultima Vez / Wim Vandekeybus (Belgium) and Constanza Macras & DORKY PARK (Berlin). She also travelled to Australia for a secondment with Chunky Move (Melbourne).
From 2010 - 2011 she studied at the Salzburg Experimental Academy of Dance (SEAD) in Austria before returning to Japan. After returning to Japan, she worked as choreography assistant to Maki Tabata.
From 2010 she also began collaborating with David Kirkpatrick (sound and multimedia artist) as duo Murasaki Penguin. Their work crosses cultures as well as the boundaries of dance, sound art, video art, electronics, design and large scale installation, with a focus on interactivity and live performance. Murasaki Penguin ‘Live Stream Performance’ was shortlisted for the ArtsHub Awards 2012 – Innovation Award for a group, organisation or company. During 2012-13 ‘Citylights~街の灯’ project Kuroda was supported by The Japan Foundation Sydney as an individual artist. She is recipient of DAIR Residency Artist run by AusdanceNSW.
